Ammar Al-Beik at Q Contemporary

Ammar Al-Beik's exhibition A Small Wedding is showing at Beirut gallery Q Contemporary.
A filmmaker and photographer, Al-Beik is largely self taught in both fields. He was co-director and co-cinematographer (with Hala Abdallah) on Ana alati tahmol azouhour ila qabriha (I Am the One Who Brings Flowers to Her Grave) which won best documentary at the Venice Film Festival 2006.
His photographs, unsurprisingly, have a cinematic quality about them as well as suggesting at deeper narrative.
Of the brightly colored Ishtars that Al-Beik incorporates into his images, he says, they are "probably the only legitimate example of the naked body in Syria".
