REC Collective member Sevim Sancaktar's Transformer series has been exhibited  a couple of times this year -in her home country of Turkey and again in Portugal -and was chosen for the first book published by REC.

Transformer looks at the "wall illusions painted on the electrical transformers throughout Istanbul and some surrounding cities." The flattened perspective of the facades, shot head-on and eye-leve, with elements of the real world infringing on the make-believe, sometimes leaves us deceived by what is real and what is painted.

The optical illusion plays into what Sancaktar, speaking of the images, refers to as "a deformed reflection of urban history, architectural element as much as artistic expression."
