From the collection of John Toohey |
I have only recently discovered John Toohey's blog One Man's Treasure which explores 'the art and history of photography using images from (his) personal collection'.
Toohey's collection favors old over new, and anonymous over famous. Alongside the images Toohey writes a blend of history, philosophy, fact and speculation that weaves a combination of context and color to the images.
Of special interest to GMEP were the posts on Orientalism, which include an insightful post on Turkish Orientalism in which Toohey relays facts and arguments from (and against) Edward Said.
